Altgeld Youth Drama Group: an after school program that integrates an African-centered cultural enrichment curriculum and theater activities that involve youth civic engagement thereby promoting positive youth development. Youth participants gain social competence, self confidence, character building, and positive connection to peers, family, school and community.
The Contemporary Painting Studio is a visual arts program for teens designed to elevate technical artistic skills through the completion of painting that reflects the people, places and events that young people encounter as a citizen of Chicago. Teens concentrate on creating a cohesive, exhibition-worthy body of work and building strong portfolios.
The Culinary Artistry program is an introcduction to the study of the food service industry. Teens learn sanitation, recipe conversion, serving and heat transfer methods and knife skills. Teens have the opportunity to create recipes and courses for an array of themed meals throughout the ten weeks of programs.
The Flamenco Arts Program introduces teens to flamenco culture and presents some of the many forms (palos) of flamenco music and dance. Teens learn various elements of flamenco dance including history, geography, rhythm, and composition.
The Second City Improvisation and Scene Writing program is a ten week apprenticeship for teens interested in improv, sketch comedy and theatre. Using theatre games, improv exercises, and scene writing, teens discover how to use their creative voice on and off stage.
Skateboard Production and Design is a multimedia program where Advanced Apprentices learn production first hand, use assorted painting and mixed medium techniques and create clean professional work on the surface of a skateboard.
