science37 programs nurture intellectual curiosity and connect
teens with Chicago's growing science sectors. Launched by Abbott,
a global health care company, science37 programs introduce teens to
scientific exploration and discovery in areas such as ecology, physics,
bioscience and beyond.
After School Matters is currently exploring exciting new opportunities for science37 pre-apprenticeship offerings.
The goal of the "Lab 101/102" program is to expose teens to basic information and techniques that are required in a life science laboratory. Activities include measurements, chromatography, gel electrophoresis, microscopy, and dissections. Teens also meet and talk with adults who have experience in a science-related field.
"21st Century Bioscience: Solving Global Health Issues" is an advanced apprenticeship program that explores the design, discovery and development of drugs, including labs based on DNA science. Professional scientists from Abbott serve as guest instructors, and the teens visit the laboratories of Abbott Molecular in Des Plaines, Illinois.
