tech37

tech37 allows teens to work with technology professionals to gain specialized skills creating websites, editing digital videos, producing music, programming robots and other exciting activities.

Below are some sample tech37 programs:

club37 - The Technology Club

The Technology Club introduces teens to the technological world through a basic knowledge of different technology-related skills. Teens learn the ins-and-outs of telecommunications, networking, computer graphics, web page design, Internet navigation, Microsoft Office software and keyboarding.

Pre-apprenticeship - Web Design

Teens in this program learn the basic tools of html and flash to create their own websites. Teens explore popular websites, learn about styles and create standard layouts. Teens learn critical workplace skills, while receiving visits from experts in web design companies and technology firms, and taking field trips to explore careers in technology.

Apprenticeship - Digital Video

At Kelvyn Park High School’s Digital Video Production Program, teens are working together to create a short documentary film about their experiences growing up on Chicago’s Northwest side. By exploring the dynamics of their neighborhood through film, apprentices learn the history of film, biography, video production skills, lighting and scripting. The program culminates in a documentary film to be shown to parents, families and community members.

Advanced Apprenticeship - Computer Refurbishing

Apprentices in the Youth Technology Corps Advanced Apprenticeship take donated computers and repair, rebuild and refurbish them. Apprentices rebuild a number of computers and donate them into the community or take them to Mexico where they are installed in schools or community-based organizations.

Internship - The Algebra Project

The Algebra Project at the Illinois Institute of Technology is designed for interns to help younger teens improve their math skills. Interns learn the hands-on duties of organizing and facilitating the Math Literacy Workshops. They are responsible for documenting the program through video, assisting pre-apprentices, and planning outside events, such as Math Bash and Family Math Night.
