This program is designed for advanced art students who want to prepare portfolios for college and scholarship applications. Students will make figure drawings with a live model, go outside to draw scenes of downtown Chicago, and experiment with oil painting, acrylic painting, and pastels. All work will be digitally documented for the student's use.
The Association House's Voces Ansiosas teen theater ensemble is a collaborative program that engages local youth, actors, writers and directors in the creative process developing an original performance piece. Voces Ansiosas teens write and perform an original play with guidance from professional performing artists.
The Vocal Arts Ensemble is a vocal performance project which combines the three stage arts to explore, develop, and refine the skills needed to work in the business of music. Master teachers will teach stage etiquette and vocal techniques. We will tour a vocal floor show with fully scripted and staged scenes using various genres of music.
Writing for the Screen is a video production program with a strong emphasis on creative writing and storytelling, offering apprentices the opportunity to express themselves through the medium of video. Apprentices learn the state of the art video technology in order to produce, write, shoot, and score their own movies.
Participants in this Intensive will engage with The Joffrey Ballet's professional teachers through a rigorous dance learning experience. Upon completion of the program, students will have gained insight into the world of professional dance and exposure to a variety of dance genres, as well as having greatly improved their dance technique and life skills.
Street-Level Youth Media's Summer Arts Apprenticeship Program (SAAP) provides the unique opportunity for talented and motivated teen to develop their skills in digital art production. Participants work under the mentorship of adult media artists and in collaboration with other teen artists to develop projects for a multimedia gallery show.
The silk painting program gives students a working knowledge of the technical and visual elements involved in painting on silk. Students learn the basics of textile design and develop a portfolio consisting of silk scarves, sketches and photographs. Students experiment with dyes and learn to transform detailed drawings into wearble art.
Teens create the musical theater production of "The Wiz" with instructors from They Journeymen Theater Company. Teens build upon their skills in all areas of performance, including acting, singing, movement and technical aspects of theater production. Singing, non singing and technical positions available.
Printmaking Arts will explore the possibilities beyond traditional painting and drawing through silk screening. The advanced apprentices will create prints on various surfaces using a number of printing techniques.
Playwriting participants, enriched by exposure to professional playwrights, actors and other theater professionals, will create one act plays. The plays will serve as the final products of a progressive draft writing and acting process.
