Tips for Attending a College Fair

Before the Fair

(Think about the following questions to help determine what school would be a good fit for you.)

  • Do you want to attend a two or four year institution?
  • Do you want to attend a co-ed or single sex institution?
  • What size school do you want to attend?
  • What programs of study are you considering?
  • How far from home do you want to go?
  • Are you interested in extracurricular activities or athletics?
  • Do you want to go to school in an urban, suburban or rural environment?
  • Do you require any special adaptations or resources?
  • Have you discussed your plans with your counselor,  family, teachers and friends?
  • Have you researched your top college choices on the internet, in your library or guidance office?
  • Have you checked the deadlines for registration and college entrance exams?
  • Have you pre registered for the college fair/s you will be attending?

At the Fair

  • Pick up any information packets and a fair directory
  • Visit with the colleges and universities that meet your criteria
  • Talk with college representatives to answer as many of your questions as you are able

After the Fair

  • Determine which schools are the best “fit” for you and research their admissions criteria
  • Arrange to attend an Open House or make a college visit when possible
  • Make contact with your preferred colleges admissions offices to request additional information or address any questions you may have
