On November 19, Illinois State Senator Mattie Hunter visited After School Matters video and music production program TechKno Camp (Grand Boulevard) for an immersive tour. Senator Hunter talked to the teens about civics and strengthening Chicago communities. She shared stories about her work in the 3rd District of Illinois, which covers a large part of the South Side of Chicago. The Senator received a full tour of TechKno Camp’s facilities including a computer lab, a soundproof booth and a conference room for storyboards and collaboration.
Teens in the After School Matters TechKno Camp program are producing a video called ‘Wisdom — The Body of Knowledge.’ The short docu-drama focuses on making positive choices when confronted violence. Senator Hunter was gracious enough to participate in an intimate interview about the effects of gun violence on the Chicago community with the teen filmmakers.
Thank you, Senator Hunter, for visiting our teens!
