iHeartMedia selected After School Matters as an official charity partner for 2016 through iHeartMedia Communities. iHeartMedia’s local radio stations have been advocating for teens and rallying support for After School Matters. Beloved radio hosts stopped by programs to surprise teens and show their support. Read below to see how much After School Matters hearts iHeartMedia.
iHeartMedia’s WCGI radio host DJ Moondawg stopped by the final luncheon of our annual Summer Teen Cuisine series. The popular DJ surprised our Advanced Culinary teens with his appearance, and gave the program a treat by taking selfies and speaking with the teens individually. Staff members enjoyed lunch created by our teens on the terrace of Gallery 37 Center for the Arts.
iHeartMedia aired several public service announcements to help spread the word about After School Matters! WGCI helped spread the word to teens, parents and community members about out 10,500 program opportunities available during Summer 2016! The radio stations also let people know how they can support teen art — by purchasing teen-crated pieces in the Gift Shop. A third clip advocated for listeners to get involved in supporting Chicago’s teens, either through volunteering, donating, or advocating for the importance of after school programs. iHeartMedia invited our Chief Executive Officer Mary Ellen Caron and our Senior Director of Communications and Policy Michael Crowley to speak on air about After School Matters programming.
