On Friday, February 16, our corporate partners, the Chicago Bulls hosted our teens for a celebration of Black History. Throughout time, Black music and culture has been influenced by, or provided social commentary on major historical moments. This showcase took viewers on a journey through Black history…through the arts. From West African drumming, all the way to the contemporary commitments of today’s popular artist, self-expression through the arts has always been a part of Black culture.
The event featured eight of our programs and over 150 teens from across the city. Guest enjoyed light refreshments, and performances from Style Matters DJ Apprenticeship, HHW Vocal Arts Ensemble, Les Enfants Dance, Colored Girls are Cover Girls, Urban Sons Speak Life, M.A.D.D. Rhythms, Chicago West Community Music Center’s The Business of Music and Hi Def Dance Ensemble.
