After three decades and with more than 350,000 teen alumni, After School Matters is the nation’s largest and most successful program provider of its kind. From one downtown space, it has grown to more than 400 locations across the city, partnering with 200 community organizations to serve teens in all 77 Chicago neighborhoods.
At the heart of it all are our teens.
From those in that very first group who learned to paint under the white tents on Block 37, to teens participating today, and every single one in between. Each teen with something to offer. Each teen shaping their future with the help of After School Matters. And each teen contributing to the positive ripple effect of our programs.
As we celebrate our 30th anniversary in 2021, we’re energized by the stories of teens from over the years, of instructors and alumni instructors, of community partners and donors, staff and supporters. We all have an After School Matters story to share—and we want to hear yours.
Maybe you were a teen in one of our programs and your experience sparked an interest that became a career or hobby.
Maybe you attended one of our hundreds of community performances over the years and were wowed by our teens’ vocal or dance talents.
Maybe you volunteered with our programs and saw the magic of our programs first-hand.
Or, maybe you’ve seen a teen proudly sporting the now-iconic purple After School Matters shirt when walking through your neighborhood.
Your story is part of the larger story of After School Matters and is what makes the organization and this community so impactful and so special.
